Best New Home Products 2010: Tools "Drywalling Dynamo"
Only a professional builder could've invented this, but we're pretty sure that all DIYers can rejoice. A T-square fitted with a dual-sided, spring-loaded utility knife replaces the measuring, squaring, and chalking of each cut. Just set the knife to your width and pull the square along the factory edge, reverse, then repeat on the opposite face.
Your tool is amazing!! I'm not doing any of the actual work my Father is and he loves it and since he's hanging 12' sheets of drywall by himself it has made cutting everything so much easier!!!
I've used the Buddy for the past couple of jobs and I must say I'm impressed. You took the concept of the rock ripper and improved it by a lot. It feels well built and performs like it should.
This would be a great product for the person doing a lot of drywall cutting in the building of their home or a major remodel. I think that a professional drywall contractor would definitely want to have this product since time is money, and this product could for sure save some time. And how many times does one have to cut 96″ sheets down to 94″ or 95″ in a remodeling job? This product would save a lot of time. Given the fact that it took me, with my limited experience using the tool, only a minute and a half to measure and make the cut shown in the video below, I think a professional could easily cut pieces to size in a minute or less.
Cutting a whole room’s worth of drywall is usually a long, slow, multiple-step process requiring a different tool for each step. The Wallboarder’s Buddy saves time and effort by combining a drywall T-square that precisely measures the length and width of the cut with utility knives (located inside the pivoting head) that do the scoring. The compact device contains storage for up to six extra blades, which can be changed without using any tools. $60
